French public loos can sometimes be pretty nasty although not as nasty as Italy or Spain and as for North Africa ... well. But a recent trip to England showed me that public loos there are not exactly models of cleanliness either. My tip to visitors anywhere: head for the loos at American-inspired franchises like McDonalds or KFC. Even if it costs you a cup of coffee for the privilege of access, you get it back in comfort and cleanliness. - Harry Prince

you english are prone to criticize france and it shygienic habits or public restrooms: go to california or anywhere in the USA , toilets are as in any country absolutely disgusting but when urgency calls, no time to wait!so you do it there : what you hadn t foreseen is that all doors to all sitting toilets are smaller than the door space by law so police officers can come and check if there are no drugaddicts shooting themselves heroin.so when you are on the bowl and you see a pair of eyes watching you , you are kind of feeling very uncomfortable.that s for the USA.

concerning england , I recall many trips t the cotswolds and oxford and chelsea where the public restrooms in many restaurants were absolutely stinking and filthy.

So don t come and blame french when your own toilets aren t that smart either! - AAAROTOSTATIC

You want terrible loos? Try Heathrow Terminal 5. Only open 2 days and the loos were already overflowing with doo. I was there. Awful. - Walgren

No it isn't. Not at all, which is why I wrote "supposed to be".

But that's how The Riviera as a whole is perceived from the outside and that projected image is what makes the tourism industry thrive here.

Dirty loos kill that image right off - amongst other things (like traffic and crime levels). - Sly

Heard about Glastonbury. Apparently you can smell it from miles away. But it's a weekend rock music venue on farmland, not a sophisticated concert venue in a city which is supposed to be chic and upmarket. - Sly

I don't know what you expect from Festival toilets but I found the toilets at the Jazz Festival pretty good. One mans crystal glass champagne is another mans mug of piss water though.

Have you ever been to Glastonbury? - BaronMuchausen

That must be the loo near the bus station end of the arrivals area. Sometimes it's OK but much of the time it's awful. It must be used by the type of undesirables that hang around bus depots everywhere although that's no excuse for the airport not to keep it clean.
The solution is to use the loo down the stairs near the aquarium. I've always found it to be fine. - Zeta

I've had experience of Nice airport landside in arrivals having some appalling ladies loos... really disgusting. Water (or other liquid!) all over the floor so you don't know where to put your feet, missing loo seats, doors with broken locks, no paper and quite filthy! Not in the least hygienic and doesn't give a good impression, does it? - Janet Wise
