This is the season of the new 2009 Telephone Directories arriving.
But for the last 5 years, the Alpes Maritime directory no longer lists Monaco subscribers at the end - just a few professionals who have paid to appear in the Pages Jaunes. So those in France wanting to call someone in Monaco whose number they do not know have the nuisance of looking on the excellent Minitel (whose nationwide service will be withdrawn next year), or try the expensive Renseignements Téléphoniques numbers - or have their own Monaco telecom directory! But these are only issued to MC subscribers, and are expensive for outsiders to buy.
Monaco residents and businesses could also find it useful to have the A.M. Annuaire for the contacts they have or would want in nearby France.
Shouting, complaining and mass demonstrations in the streets have all failed to have Monaco restored to the A.M. directory - an "economy measure", which has degraded the standard of life here.
Now however, St Paul's Anglican Church, the British Association of Monaco, the Riviera Reporter and the Royal British Legion (Nice-Monaco) are organising a swap system for last year's Directories, which are better than nothing, and would normally be thrown away. So bring your old Monaco Telecom Annuaires (both volumes please) to the Chaplain's porch below St Paul's Church in Avenue Grande Bretagne. Collections of 2008 A.M Annuaires are being organised in towns close to Monaco ready for transporting to Monaco, but their availability depends on the distribution of the 2009 ones.
So please ask your friends nearby not to throw away their old phone books, but to collect them for RECYCLING in this easy way.
