Not Much Interest Print
Written by Riviera Reporter

The Caisse d’Epargne has led the field in applying the new law which came into force in March allowing interest to be paid on current accounts.

To benefit from this you have to enrol for the bank’s Satellis package (which includes a bank card and an automatic overdraft facility) costing 6 a year; alternatively you can be billed 50˘ a month. The consumer organisation UFC-Que Choisir? is not impressed: “On an average account interest will be 10 to 12.50 a year – and that’s taxed! We’d prefer to see lower charges all round and a more customer-friendly style at the banks.”
