Sweden Calling Jesus and Mel Gibson |

Steve Nash is one of several readers to complain about the cutback
of World Service transmissions to Western Europe on short wave. As
mentioned last time, across the day it’s worth trying the frequencies
for North Africa (15485MHz, 17640MHz). Steve says, “I notice a lot of
German, Dutch and Swedish at all hours on the 49-metre band but it’s
hard to find the BBC.” Well, as I also explained, that won’t change.
Germans are spoilt for choice with several domestic channels relayed
on short wave – just tune across the band and you’ll find them. Radio
Nederland continues on short wave and, in both Dutch and English, can
be found on satellite at Astra 1G 19.2 degrees East transponder 109;
Sveriges Radio in Stockholm is also delivered in both modes, their
satellite channel is at Hot Bird 6 13° East transponder 94. Among other
languages, they carry programmes in Aramaic – the language of Jesus and
Mel Gibson – and Romany.
