As long as you like... as long as it’s no longer than 24 days
Chris is a New Zealander working in Juan-les-Pins. He’d like to take
all his holiday time—5 weeks—in December, add on the extra days of the
fêtes and go off to Dunedin for around 6 weeks. His boss says this just
isn’t “convenient” and won’t agree to let him go. Is he able to do
this? Yep! According to the Code du Travail an employee can’t take off
more than 24 consecutive working days (that includes Saturdays) or 4
weeks; similarly, an employer can’t limit a holiday absence to less
than 12 days or 2 weeks. Obviously, the only solution in Chris’ case is
to arrive at a friendly agreement with his boss.
