Eighteen plus…

This last question I discussed with Damian Elwes. Ralph in the Var wrote to say that his 17-year old daughter attends a French high school. She would like to go on to a British university in a year or two’s time. Where can she get advice?

Well, her lycée teachers aren’t likely to know much about higher education in the U.K. There’s a lot of information on the web — all universities have sites, and she could usefully look at www.sundaytimes.co.uk/universityguide. Of course, students in our international schools (Mougins, Nice and Valbonne) are lucky — they get the very best advice from teachers with a wide knowledge of the university scene. By the way, Ralph says his daughter may take a gap year. Now that’s something that has to be carefully prepared. Have a look at www.gapyear.com or www.yearoutgroup.org.
