There’s no end of good eating places in our region. We could never discover them all but our readers often help. Here are a few of your recent discoveries. Keep them coming.
Jonty and Liz Steinfeld find value in Valbonne:
I read your request for a name of a particularly good, cheap, local restaurant and would like to strongly recommend the Valbonnais in Valbonne. We have been going there for many years and it recently changed hands. It has kept the same great chefs and we now get an even better welcome from the new owner, Jean Luc and his wife, Chantale. The food is mainly pizzas and pasta but they also do very good salads, grills and desserts. (The chocolate mousse is to die for!) There is no terrace but it has recently been air conditioned. You can eat like a king for about 15 a head. Best to reserve.

Richard Duda writes about his seafood favourite:
On my regular visits to Cannes I always try to make it Lou Souleou on the sea-front west of the old harbour. I warmly recommend their Bourride Provençale, a great mix of fish and seafood. You start by eating the solids then tuck into the soup they arrived in. Closer to town on the Quai Saint Pierre and Rue Félix Faure the Bourrides can get very expensive, but theirs cost 22 in February. The managers are not locals. They come from northern France and have that typical friendly style you meet up there. They’re very good with children. Reservations recommended.

Peter Field tells us about an exotic discovery:
We are Thai food nuts. We have travelled Thailand one end to another so we know real Thai food. Now we have just found a wonderful Thai Restaurant in Juan Les Pins called Mai Thai which is the real thing. The restaurant is authentic in its design and traditional dress with the staff, the chef and staff are Thai. One can have mild Thai or Thai hot food – either choice is great. Mai Thai is just Thai. It has a pretty terrace and is air conditioned in the main restaurant. I have given the owner/chef a copy of the Reporter and suggested that he advertises with you.
