Geneviève - Profile of a Painter Print
Written by Reporter - Oct 2006

The distinguished American artist Geneviève  has chosen to spend part of every year living on the Coast. Born in Dearborn, Michigan, where her father was curator of Henry Ford’s personal museum, she had a very broad education in the creative arts, covering everything from ceramics and weaving to music and drama. She has also lived in several parts of the world, though she has a particular fondness for this region and for Amsterdam where she lived for many years.

Geneviève is best known for her expressionist paintings, notable for their use of natural pigments from Provence. She prefers landscapes and “still life” subjects which make a powerful impact on the viewer. On a wall they give off an unusual tactile distinctiveness. But judge for yourself – Geneviève’s next local exhibition is at the Chapelle Sainte Elisabeth in Villefranche from October 7th through November 5th. Prospective buyers should note that the paintings are offered at fixed prices so none of that annoying need to haggle.

And something completely different: once again Saint-Tropez will be hosting its annual Festival of Australian and New Zealand Cinema – Rencontres du Cinéma des Antipodes (www.festivaldesantipodes.org) – from October 9th to 15th. It’s always a mixed bag but you can count on quite a lot of interesting viewing.
