Autoroute Telepeage Print
Written by Reporter, Sept 2005

We met a guy the other day who’d just done a lot of driving across France this summer. He complained about sitting in his unairconditioned vehicle in long queues at motorway tolls. I had to tell him about France’s system of télépéage which makes driving so much easier. Simply, you pay a subscription and get a badge to fix to your windscreen. When you arrive at a toll, the badge electronically activates the barrier. There are two main formulas: with one your badge works throughout the French autoroute system and your bank account is debited monthly for toll fees at the normal rate; there’s also a special offer for commuters which allows them to use tolls on their regular daily journeys at a reduced rate. For details contact our local company Escota on www.escota.fr.
