How to vote in the UK general election Print
Written by Riviera Reporter

Put simply: how to vote in the UK general election

You must have been registered to vote in the UK within the last 15 years (or, if a minor when in the UK, your parent or guardian was so registered)

You must register in the constituency on whose electoral role you appeared. Contact details from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk

You can vote in three ways:
  • By post  - ballot papers are set out by regular mail only a week before the poll so may not arrive in time
  • By proxy - a British citizen or citizen of the Commonwealth of Republic of Ireland living in the UK willing to vote on your behalf
  • In person in the UK (this can’t be a last minute decision. If you’ve already opted for a postal or proxy vote you can’t vote in person.

Registration forms  are available at www.electoralcommission.org.uk or write to The Electoral Commission, Trevelyan House, Great Peter Street, London, SW1P 2H UK.
