Expat Voting in French Municipals Print
Written by Sandra Shadrach, Dec 2007

Thank you for the interesting article in your Oct/Nov issue about how to apply for a vote in the March 2008 local elections. I have just one supplementary question (having taken the format of the declaration from your website) ... and that is – do I have to go in person to the mairie, or can I post this to them? Sandra Shadrach, by email

Lesley Joines tells us the papers can be sent by post with a phone number but everything has to be complete. Typically, there are different interpretations of the law in different mairies.

Normally the French Ministère de l?Intérieure publishes leaflets to explain about signing up for non-French EU citizens but by the time they are sent out it may well be to late!
For really difficult cases the Services Eléctoraux de la Préfecture do seem to answer questions quickly now. M.M.
