Expat Voting in French Municipals |

Thank you for the interesting article in your Oct/Nov issue about how to apply for a vote in the March 2008 local elections. I have just one supplementary question (having taken the format of the declaration from your website) ... and that is – do I have to go in person to the mairie, or can I post this to them? As things are never straightforward with French administrations, Lesley recommends that you phone your local mairie just to confirm whether they will accept the papers by post but it would still be best to go in person in case anything is missing. Demands from non-French EU citizens can expect to be very closely checked.
Normally the French Ministère de l?Intérieure publishes leaflets to explain about signing up for non-French EU citizens but by the time they are sent out it may well be to late!
For really difficult cases the Services Eléctoraux de la Préfecture do seem to answer questions quickly now. M.M.
