EEK! TALLINN, ESTONIA

"An absolute jewel," is how one Brit joyfully described Tallinn's medieval town to me. An absolute tourist trap would be more like it. True, it's a virtual postcard and charming with an Indian, Italian and Irish restaurant lining Town Hall Square, all ridiculously expensive and accepting only Estonian Kroon (EEK). Don't fret though, a few steps from  "the best-preserved medieval town hall in Northern Europe" (circa 1320) is McDonald's. Most entertaining, however, was a confrontation at the local Pride Parade by a handful of anti-gay protesters holding amusing placards (photo).
