Keeping Someone's Pet
Written by Riviera Reporter

Dogs can be difficult…

Maggie in Villeneuve-Loubet has written to say that friends of hers have asked whether she could look after their cocker spaniel for a month later this year while they visit their daughter in Dubai. She wants to oblige but the pooch in question is what she calls “rather obstreperous” and she wonders what would be the insurance position if the animal caused injury or damage during her guardianship. Well, normally this would be covered by her “multirisk” household insurance so she has no need to worry. On the other hand—and this aspect was touched on in my last column—if her canine guest falls ill the responsibility is the dog’s owners’ who, hopefully, have taken out adequate health insurance for their pet.
