French Driving Test

It's becoming harder to get a driving licence in France. Last year only just over 52% of those taking the practical driving test for “Permis B” were successful; this compares with an average of 57% across the previous ten years. One reason is that in many areas – including here – the test has been lengthened from 20 to 35 minutes which gives a candidate more time to make mistakes. And here’s a useful – if unsurprising – tip: would-be drivers who are tested in rural or semi-rural areas are more likely to succeed than those who have to show off their skills in a busy town.
